Myrhorod continues implementing energy efficiency measures in public and residential buildings

On February 16, 2016 Mr.Dmytro Marusych and Ms.Victoria Pohorielova,GIZ Consultants, visited Myrhorod where they took part in a series of meetings and events with a view to providing support in the course of improving energy efficiency in the municipality.

Specifically, at the beginning a workshop for the persons in charge of energy saving issues in public buildings was held. Mr. Dmytro Marusych presented the examples of energy efficiency measures implemented in other Ukrainian municipalities, pointing out typical mistakes made in the process of their implementation. Moreover, the project expert willingly shared his own experience during individual consultations, highlighting the importance of ensuring continuous energy consumption monitoring.

The event continued in the assembly hall of Myrhorod City Council where representatives of HOAs and public utility companies gathered to learn about the specific aspects of energy saving in multi-apartment residential buildings and fundraising for energy efficiency projects implementation. In his welcome speech Mr. Serhyi Solomakha, Mayor of Myrhorod, emphasized the importance of the proper management of multi-apartment residential buildings where over half of the city’s population lives. In addition, he presented his vision of Myrhorod housing and municipal economy reforming in the upcoming period.

Ms.Victoria Pohorielova presented the comprehensive information on HOAs functioning and their advantages to the participants, especially given the recent legislative changes in the field of multi-apartment residential buildings management. While the report of Mr. Dmytro Marusych on the HOAs’ role in the implementation of energy efficiency measures in residential buildings sparked a lively discussion and many questions amongst the audience.

The heads of HOAs and proactive residents of the city’s multi-apartment buildings listened carefully to the experts’ recommendations and will bring them into life by actively using the existing financial and technical instruments to improve energy efficiency at their homes.
