Cyclists of Horishni Plavni promote thrifty attitude towards the energy consumption

Cycling activists traditionally support the idea of ​​energy saving in municipalities. On 18 September 2016, in the framework of German Weeks in Ukraine 2016, Horishni Plavni, which is a partner city of the consortium led by Poltava Regional State Administration, hosted a citywide bike ride.

The event was organized by the City Council Horishni Plavni with the support of the project “Energy Efficiency in Municipalities” implemented on behalf of the German Government by Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

In his welcome address during the bike ride inauguration, Mr. Oleksandr Chupryna, Deputy Mayor of Horishni Plavni, wished all the cyclists a successful ride and expressed his gratitude for taking part in the event, as well as assured the participants and guests in continuing support of the cycling development in the city on behalf of the local authorities.

The bike ride of 4.6 km length got underway at the Theatre Square. It was attended by 60 cyclists – students and trainers of the municipal cycling school, representatives of the local NGO “Pulse of the Country” and Kremenchug NGO “Eco Bike”, as well as kids and adults of Horishni Plavni. The youngest and the oldest cyclists received special gifts from the project – LED flashlights for bicycles and informational materials on improving energy efficiency in municipalities. The cyclists also learned some useful tips for energy saving in their homes.

Furthermore, a simultaneous bike ride was held in Myrhorod. The above mentioned events are aimed at drawing attention of the citizens to the necessity of thrifty use of energy resources and the formation of energy-efficient thinking.
